The future is bright
As an industry, we’ve seen demand for British apples increase over the last 20 years and have invested in new, highly productive orchards and innovative equipment to improve efficiencies.
Our modern orchards use space efficiently, with up to 3,500 trees per hectare supported by posts and wires. We’ve also undertaken research to better understand how to use beneficial insects in the growing process and have invested heavily in new packhouses and cold stores, all designed to operate efficiently and minimise the use of energy. As a result of our growers’ hard work and investment in new, environmentally-friendly technologies, the length of the season has increased, with several popular varieties now available in April and May.
